New Deadline for Senior Property Tax Exemptions

New Deadline for Senior Property Tax Exemptions

Dear Friend,

It’s not too late for seniors to apply for vital property tax relief. The deadline to submit Senior Citizen Exemption and Senior Freeze Exemption applications has been extended to Friday, March 2. Your application must be postmarked by that date.

The Senior Citizen Exemption is available to all property owners born in 1952 or earlier. The Senior Freeze Exemption offers more substantial savings but is only available to seniors with a total household income of $65,000

Seniors must apply for these exemptions every year. The forms are available online at www.cookcountyassessor.com. If you need any assistance, contact Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios’s office at (312) 443-7550.

I continue to work in Springfield as a strong advocate for property tax relief including, most recently, a plan I introduced to freeze property taxes in the State for four years. Please contact me to find out how I am working to help you keep your hard-earned money. Email me at IraforSenate@gmail.com or call (773) 761-0050.

Sincerely,

Senator Ira I. Silverstein
Illinois State Senate, District 8
